What's Your Character Trait

Character Traits....

that was the topic of the day!  We started off brainstorming a list of possible traits characters could have.
sweet
silly
nice
mean
helpful
curious
serious

Then, I read a story aloud to the class.  Together, we decided that Pete, the character, was helpful.  However, we did not stop there.  We went back into the text to find the evidence that proved that Pete was helpful.

After lunch, we continued our discussion of character traits.  We had come up with character traits that described some of our friends in class!  Check out the traits we came up with!

Spring Break + homework = MEANEST TEACHER EVER

I am sure this will not make me a very popular teacher, but I will be sending home a small assignment for spring break.  I put together a 4 page Spring Break Brain Boost packet.  Each page is double sided, with one side being reading/language and the other side being math. My thought was if you could find 10 minutes for your child to do a page a day for a for a total of 4 days during break, we could keep our current skills fresh. I feel we have missed out on a lot of instructional time with all of the snow days.  I just don't want to lose any more time.
If this is going to be a problem, please let me know!  I will have treats for children who complete their entire packet and return it to me after break.

Thank you,
Mrs. Wanke

Sample page 1 from the packet. Do one page, front and back a day for 4 days total.

The Sneaky Leprechaun

The sneaky leprechaun came in our room while we were at library!  He set off all our traps, but was not trapped. He destroyed our room by turning over a table, leaving glitter everywhere, and throwing items all over the room.  At least he left us each a note along with some leprechaun juice and a chocolate gold coin.

Here is the note and leprechaun juice that Lucky left us.  If the leprechaun juice was sweet it meant we had been good.  If it was sour, it meant we had been bad.

"I think the leprechaun played a trick on me...I have been good!"

Check out our amazing leprechaun traps!  Maybe next year we will catch one!

Thank you

Well our class did not get a visit from the Golden Apple fairy this year.  However, we don't NEED a Golden Apple to know that we are amazing...I already knew long before today that I have the very VERY best class.  I am a very blessed teacher to get to come to school every day and teach these amazing children.

When I first heard the news, I was a little bummed to have lost.  Then, I had a thought...I did not lose! I won on the first day of school when all 17 of these amazing first graders walked through my door.  I won because I get them for two whole years.  I won because I get to laugh, sing, dance, and learn alongside some great students and adults every single day. I won because I get the honor and privilege of watching my students grow and learn. I won because I have the BEST job at the BEST school in the whole world!

My amazing coworkers, administration, and school board make "losing" a great thing! I was surprised this morning by the school board, my principal, superintendent, some of my former students who are now in 4th grade and my daughter showing up to our classroom.  We were first serenaded by the 4th graders who sang the "Thank You" song.  Then, I was presented with flowers from the PES family and a card from the school board.  WOW!  Words can not begin to express my gratitude.

Thank you PES family and Pecatonica School Board

Thank you to the mystery coworker who left this by my door this morning :)

Thank you Ashley Hoffman for the Top Banana Award!

I think my students are all winners so, they each got a medal reminding them of this fact!

We are ALL winners!

IF the weather is nice next week, we will be walking to 3rd Street Station and I will be treating all these winners to ice cream!

Today, the Cat in the Hat came to our school and read to us Green Eggs and Ham!

The Cat in the Hat's helpers...Thing One and Thing Two.

We loved our visit from the Cat in the Hat.

"Yummy, I love green eggs and ham!"

"Can I have more please?"

"This is my second helping!"

"I really like green eggs and ham!"

Dr. Seuss Takes Over

I am Mrs. Wanke and I speak for the whales
This week has been fun and full of new tales!

My hair did turn blue
We wore our socks with no shoe.

Our hair was quite crazy
with PJ's on Friday, still we weren't lazy.

We still found time to read and write
We did subtraction with all of our might!

Music- oh don't forget that
we practice and practiced to get our concert down pat!

Well now it is time for me to end this little rhyme
I just thought I would share with you our fun filled time.
