Fun Week of Learning

We had a lot of fun this week celebrating Dr. Seuss, learning about non-fiction text features, and comparing numbers.

On Friday, all the first graders got together to taste test some green eggs and ham.  We had some mixed reviews and not all were interested in sampling.

What is this taste in my mouth?

Yummy!

We have worked really hard at locating and naming different text features in non-fiction text.  On Thursday, we had to walk around the cafeteria looking at different pages of a non-fiction frog book.  We then had to write down what text feature the arrow was pointing to on that particular page.

Look a caption!

Olaf knows her text features!

We also worked on comparing numbers by using the greater than and less than symbols.  We though it was more fun to use people to create these symbols rather than just drawing them.

66 is less than 84.

March Madness Dr. Seuss Style!

We started off the month of March with the front of our room being transformed into the Lorax with Truffula Trees!

On March 2nd the Cat in the Hat came and read Green Eggs and Ham to our class. Of course after we had to eat some Green Eggs and Ham!

Then began our Battle of the Books!

We predicted, read, and voted our way through 16 of the top Dr. Seuss books!

Finally the winner was announced....
Hooray for Dr. Suess!

The Cat in the Hat's helpers...Thing One and Thing Two.

We loved our visit from the Cat in the Hat.

"Yummy, I love green eggs and ham!"

"Can I have more please?"

"This is my second helping!"

"I really like green eggs and ham!"
