Humpty Dumpty Egg Drop STEM

Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall.  Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the King's horses and all the King's men, couldn't put Humpty together again.  However, when you have this ingenuitive group of first graders Humpty can fall all he wants and NOT break!  Way to go first graders...you saved Humpty!

We only had a few casualties, but in this classroom we understand that mistakes only help us learn!  We keep trying, creating, and building all while using what we learned.  So with that in mind...everyone is a winner!

Donut Writing

We started learning how to add more description into our writing by using adjectives.  So to kick this lesson off, Mrs. Wanke had us taste some yummy donuts!  This was inspired by the story Little Red and the Big Hungry Lion because at the end of the story Little Red, her aunt, and the Lion ate donuts together.

We sampled chocolate and strawberry donuts!  Some of us ate them so quickly Mrs. Wanke couldn't get a picture.

After eating the donuts, we made a donut craft.  On the donut we placed 5 sprinkles.  We wrote an adjective that described the donuts on each sprinkle.

The next day we made a plan for an opinion piece about donuts.  We used the adjectives that we brainstormed on our craft in our planning.

Lastly, when we were done planning, we wrote our final draft.  These wonderful pieces of writing and art hang in the hallway for all to admire!
