10 is our SUPER HERO!
We are working on memorizing all the combinations that make 10. When we know how to make 10, we solve many many problems!
Here is a song that we use to warm up before math!
Here is a fun game that we played in the computer lab to help us memorize our facts to 10! It makes us excited that it has a whale in it. Click on the picture to play the game at home.

Whale of the MONTH!
Our Whale of the Month for September is Jacob! Jacob demonstrated all month what it means to be a whale. He worked together with others, communicated with his peers, and help out whenever needed! Way to go Jacob.
Jacob gets to wear the whale fin around school to let everyone know he knows what it means to be a whale. He also gets a cookie from Cookies by Design in Rockford. (Thank you Cookies By Design!)
Can't wait to see who is the Whale of the Month for October.
Wack-a-Word
Today we had fun playing wack a word! A word would pop up on the Smartboard. Once the word disappeared, we had to wack the letters to spell the word before the timer ran out!

Guided Math FUN
Today we worked on decomposing various numbers into number bonds and writing the corresponding addition equations. We started off as an entire class working around giant ten frame. Using red and yellow plates we made different combinations of 6 on the ten frame. Then, we transferred the information into a number bond.
Memory Game
We had to apply what we know about making combinations of 10 to making combinations of 20!
During our groups we had some fun playing different games. Some of us played Shaky Shaky Drop and others play a Memory game.
Shaky Shaky Drop
We had to shake a cup with two sided counters. Then, we had to put that information into the number bond and write the corresponding addition equations.

Hard Work Happening Here
We worked so hard learning how to work independently at our work stations. Now we are able to start our guided group. This is when the magic happens and we can grow our brains!
Here are some snap shots from some of our guided math time.
Sometimes after hard work you just need to go outside and "hangout" for a bit!

In writing this week we reviewed why it is so important to put spaces between our words. After writing, we left our binders out and the Writing Fairy came. She left and M&M on every space we had between words in our writing.
