Today was Tropical Island Day! We had so much fun.
We started the day off by learning a little bit about the Hawaiian Islands. Ask your child to share with you what they learned.
We then watched Lilo and Stitch with Mrs. Smallwood's class. Mrs. Wanke gave us our Hawaiian names also. Her name was Mrs. Lala.
At lunch everyone got a slushy! YUMMY!
In the afternoon we made our trail mix and learned how to hula dance. The hula dance was much more popular that the tropical trail mix.
Here we are pretending to be surfer dudes with our reading buddies!

Getting inside the characters head.
Today we read the story The Recess Queen. Before reading the story, we asked ourselves, what would Mean Jeans new year's resolution be?
After we read the story, we decided that Mean Jean learned that it was more fun to play with her friends than it is to be mean with them. So we decided that her new year's resolution would be to be nice to people at recess.
We used the app Chatter Pix to create a talking Mean Jean, who was able to tell us her resolution.
This app is free and fun and kid friendly.
Check back to see what other things our book characters might say as we get inside their heads!

Happy New Year
We had a wonderful week back to school. We started our week with a poem called New Year's Resolutions. Many of us were quite curious as to what a new year's resolution was.
New Year's Resolutions
Just think, think, think,
Of things you can do,
To make yourself better,
Before the years through.
Resolutions can be tough,
Or simple as can be.
Making Resolutions,
Are good for you and me!
So what will you promise,
To help yourself, my dear?
Through 2016
Have a happy, new year!
After reading this poem we decided that a resolution is a promise to yourself that will help you become a better person or that will help others.
Later in the week, we read a book called Squirrel's New Year's Resolution. This gave us some examples of resolutions. We started planning what our new year's resolution could be.
We worked hard on our planning and writing. We made revisions and edited. Next week we will begin writing our published copy! We are so excited to show you our finished copy!

Catch up Post
On November 24th we went to the ICF property to do some fun fall activities. Here you see us eating a snack. This is not just any old snack, this snack taught us how the Indians planted corn. We had pudding for the dirt, then Swedish fish as the fish to help fertilize the soil, candy corn for the corn seeds, and then crushed Oreos for the dirt.
YUMMY!
We played a fun game called Rod Squeeze. This game had us work on finding missing numbers in addition and subtraction problems.
Check out these two cuties! They were nominated by their class mates for having good behavior for October and November! Way to go!

Wonderful Whale T-shirts
Coming home in communicators tomorrow will be an order form for our one of a kind Wonderful Whale T-shirts. Every student had a hand in creating this shirt. Each student wrote his/her name to look as if it was coming out of the whale spout.
We will be wearing these every Friday and on our field trips. The cost per shirt will be $12. Ideally, we would want everyone to have a t-shirt. If this is a problem, please let me know.
