We have been talking about character traits. We have learned there are two kinds of traits: inside and outside traits. Inside traits are traits we can't see; we discover them by the things characters say and do. Outside traits are traits we can see, even if the character never speaks a word or does anything.
Today, we started off labeling Mrs. Wanke's outside traits.
After that, we wrote her inside traits inside a heart. These are traits we have discovered by things Mrs. Wanke has said and done.
This was fun, but it was more fun when we were able to label our friends' outside traits and write their inside traits in a heart too.
We worked with number bonds to practice moving two parts together to make a whole. We learned that adding is a part + a part to get our whole or as Mrs. Wanke calls it our BIG daddy number. No other number in the number bond or number sentence can be larger that the whole or BIG daddy number!
Here we are working in small groups with Mrs. Wanke.
We had so much fun learning about the apple life cycle. At the beginning of the week, Mrs. Wanke asked what we knew about apples? We knew so many facts. She explained that what we know about a topic is called our schema. She explained that we can grow our schema by reading and identifying new information. So, we read the story How Apples Grow.
After reading the story, we wrote down all the new facts that we learned. We were thrilled to see that we were expanding our knowledge and learning new things.
Later in the week, we learned the difference between opinions and facts. We worked to identify different apple statements as facts or opinions.
We searched the hallway for apples with letters on them. When we found the capital letter, we had to find and trace the lowercase letter.
On Friday, we read the story, How to Make an Apple Pie and see the World. This was a fun story about a girl who traveled all over the world collecting ingredients to make an apple pie.
After reading the story Mrs. Wanke had each of us make our own apple turnover! Check out our pictures of us making our turnovers.
We loved it even more when we were able to eat them!
