100th Day of School

We had so much fun on the 100th day of school!  The first grade hallway looked like it had turned into a retirement home.

Our first challenge of the day was to find 100 balloons that were hidden around the hallway! Once we found the balloons we had to stick them on a giant blank 100's chart.

We took pictures of us with an app that made us look extra old.  Then, we wrote what we would do if we were 100 years old.  Check out our pictures!

We also played lots of games that helped us practice numbers to 100! We had to build a 100's chart, roll a dice building and regrouping base ten blocks until we made 100, we also had to lick a tootsie pop 100 times to see what would happen.  We had so much fun!

Introducing...

A very special package arrived in our class today!  We all thought it was going to be baby ducks!  Boy were we wrong!

Introducing Wally the Whale!

We were not expecting a whale in that package, but we were just as excited!  Each week Wally will come home with someone to visit for the weekend!  While he is at our house we are to journal and take or draw pictures of Wally's adventures.  When Wally return to school at the start of the week, we will read all about his time at our houses.

Snowball Fight

Today we had a snowball fight in our classroom!
We practiced spelling by writing a word Mrs. Wanke gave the inside of our "snowball."  Next, we would throw the snowball when Mrs. Wanke said, "Ready, aim, FIRE!"  Then, we would quickly grab any snowball off the ground and checked the spelling of the word we just wrote.  After, Mrs. Wanke would give us another word and we would do it all over again!  SO MUCH FUN!

Pumpkin Jack

14 Days ago we read the story Pumpkin Jack.

After reading this story, we decided to carve our very own Pumpkin Jack and watch him rot in hopes of seeing the pumpkin life cycle come full circle.

Today was day 14 of our observations.  We each took time to observe the changes to Pumpkin Jack, both outside and inside.

We noticed that his skin is wrinkly. His eyes and nose are caving in.  We noticed that his 1 tooth is no longer visible and that the space between his eyes has cracked.

We noticed that there was mold growing on the inside and some of the seeds have sprouted! One of the sprouts is starting to grow out of his eye.  We hypothesize that this is because the sprout is seeking out the light.

At least once a month we will update our Pumpkin Jack observation book with the changes that are taking place.

Our party was so much fun too!  Thank you to everyone that donated the treats, drinks, take home gifts, and for the fun games!
