Apples
This week we read the book How To Make An Apple Pie and Travel the World.
This is an adorable story about a girl who wanted to make an apple pie, but the market was closed. So she had to travel around the world to gather all the ingredients.
We also tuned into some interesting vocabulary words. (ingredients, churn, spoil, harvest, and orchard.)
Apples took over our math time as well this week.
At the guided math table, we had mystery bags. Each bad had a different number of apples inside. We had to count the number of apples, record the digit, write the number word, and draw the correct amount.
We played fill the apple basket for one of our math rotation games. With a partner we would roll two dice and add the numbers up. Then, we would put that number of apples into our basket. The partner to fill their basket first one!
We had a ton of fun make our own personal apple turn overs! YUMMY! Check out each of us with our yummy creations.

Behavior Tickets
We have been struggling with some minor behaviors that are becoming chronic issues. As a teacher I believe in dealing with minor behavior issues in the classroom, but as a parent I would want to know if my child was repeatedly having a behavior issue so I could reinforce the desired behavior.
So going forward when your child has a consequence for a behavior or there is a behavior that is becoming chronic, I will staple the behavior ticket in your child's assignment notebook.
I will mark the appropriate comments and fill in any necessary information. All I ask of you is to leave it in your child's assignment notebook, initial it, and just reinforce the correct behavior. I want us to work as a team. Part of that is us communicating and being on the same page. If at any time we start to see a pattern and the behavior is not getting better, we will meet and develop a plan. Also, if you ever would like to meet or chat on the phone, I am always available.

Whack a Word
This week we played one of my favorite spelling games, Whack-A-Word! I am sure it will become your child's favorite too!
Student are given a mallet and a keyboard.
Next, a word pops up on the smart board.
As soon as the word disappears, students can start whacking away at the letters in the word.
As soon as they hit all the letters they put their mallet in the air.
If they whack the word before the timer goes off, then they won. If not, better luck with the next word.
This is always such a fun and high energy way to practice the weekly spelling patterns!
