Authors at Work

We have been hard at work learning how to write a story like an author!  We planned out the perfect story to tell.  We revised and edited our work.  Now we are in the final stages of publishing a real book!  We can't wait to bring home our published story!

Check us out as we are hard at work!

Spelling Roller Coaster

Today was a great day for practicing our spelling!  Today was Spelling Roller coaster day!
Mrs. Wanke set up lots of obstacles for us to go through.

Each obstacle had a gate keeper that would tell us the word to spell.  We had to whisper spell the word back to them.  If we spelled the word correctly we could go through the obstacle.  If not, we had to go all the way back to the end of the line and try again.

First up was the tunnel.

Next, we had to cross on the wobbly lily pads.

Third, we had to zig zag through the green balls.

No obstacle course is complete without the army crawl!

Almost done at the Run Around!

Lastly, if we spelled the last CHALLENGE word correctly, we got a sticker and a Jolly Rancher!

We LOVE spelling roller coaster!

3-2-1 Blast Off

Have you ever wanted to go into space?  Of course you have!
Last week we were able to travel to all the planets in our solar system.
We learned a little bit about each planet while we were there.

I hung 11 cards around the school. One for each planet, and introduction to the solar system, and one for returning to Earth.

Students used our iPads to scan a QR code on each card. The code took students to various videos and songs to learn about our solar system.

As they learned they had to record their findings in their Astronaut Log Book.  (I included the QR codes in the log book so you can travel into space too!)

Wacky Tacky Wednesday

We sure had fun dressing wacky in honor of our favorite penguin friend Tacky!

Moon Phases

This week we have been reading the book The Moon Seems to Change by Franklyn Branley.

This book teaches us about the phases of the moon.

We learned that there are 8 phases of the moon.

To help us understand this we made the different phases of the moon with Oreo cookies!  This was a super fun and yummy way to learn about the moon phases.

Coming home this week is a calendar for us to observe and record the moon phases each night.  This will give us a some real world experience.  Anyone that completes this sheet and turns it in will get a special prize from Mrs. Wanke.
