3 Branches of Government

We started talking about the role of each of the three branches of government.  It was a little confusing for use to keep it all straight.

We watched a couple of cute videos to maybe help straighten it all out for us.

We started working on creating some graduated flash cards that will tell us who is in charge of each branch, what the power of each branch is, and why the each branch is important to our government functioning smoothly.

We really discussed checks and balances and why it is important that no branch is more powerful than the other.

I stumbled upon this GREAT website today where I can view many children's books for free.  All I had to do was create a free account.  Click the picture below to check it out!

Landform Cafe

Yesterday our room was transformed into the Landform Cafe!  Visitors were allowed to come in have a snack, view our landform projects and listen to our presentations.

There was such a great great creativity and variety with our projects.

Hodge Podge Post

Well, I feel like it has been forever since I posted a meaningful post about what we are doing filled with pictures.  Well, hopefully this post will makeup for that!

We Voted!

This week our school held a school wide elections. Student were able to vote for their favorite dog, bird, and wild animal.  On Monday, forth graders came around the building to give use their "campaign" speeches for "candidates" in each category.  We loved hearing all the speeches.  This lead to a great discussion about why we have been seeing so many commercials on TV and what a debate between candidates would look like.  On Tuesday we voted. We took this responsibility very seriously.

The results are in...
Favorite dog was the Bulldog
Favorite bird was the Hummingbird
Favorite wild animal was the Fox

Halloween

Thank you so much to all the parents who came and helped with the party!  We are so very lucky to have such a great supportive group of parents.  We had so much fun playing Ghoulish Grab.  We had to reach into boxes and touch different items like bat wings and a zombie hand...well not really.  We  were told that is what the items in the box were, but we had to decide what they really were.  It was a test of bravery!  We also enjoyed playing a math punch game.  We were given a math problem to solve.  If we got it correct we were able to punch out a circle to retrieve our prize.  What a fun and educational game!

We loved parading around in our costumes of course.  Check out how cute and spooky we are.

See you all soon!

Well, I can't wait to meet with everyone on Thursday and Friday.  I feel totally honored and blessed to be your child's teacher.  Thank you so much for always supporting our classroom and for raising such amazing children.

We started working on making scarves for the homeless children today.  However, we still have lots of work to do. You could help us finish some of these scarves up when you come for your child's conference.  Check out the desk in the hallway to see how you can help.  Also, when you are here see all the cool things we have been doing with Stellaluna in class.  Our Wanke's Work that we created in art will also be in the hallway on display.

If you have any fleece that you would like to donate to help us make scarves or old, unwanted scarves, please feel free to bring it with you to your child's conference.

I am also collecting old 8x10 picture frames no matter the condition or color.  If you have any that you would like to donate, and not get back, please bring them to conferences as well.  Thanks!
